Between party hopping, gift shopping, and getting my apartment all decked out for the holiday season, the next two months will be one big green and red blur. And if you’re like me — the person hosting the notorious annual holiday parties — then finding helpful shortcuts is a must if you plan to make it to New Year’s Eve. When planning your festive shindigs this year, put the oven mitts away and turn on your computer.
Growing up in the restaurant biz, catering fancy parties has always been second nature to me. But I’ve learned over the years, there’s no need to break your back to put on a great party. In planning my soirées, I’ve started to solicit the help of local eateries to fatten up my holiday menu. And it appears I’m not the only one. According to the National Restaurant Association, 53 percent of consumers this year will turn to restaurant take-out items for their holiday meals.
I find it super helpful to order simple sides and large protein dishes from a delivery restaurant. Ordering these extra dishes allows me more time to cook my specialty items and get my house decorated for the festivities. In preparation for the holiday rush, many restaurants have special seasonal catering menus that are budget friendly.
Here at the GrubHub.com office we recently had our Thanksgiving party. With no stove or oven in the office, The Goddess and Grocer totally came to the rescue. No one really had the time to bake a turkey, nor did they really want to carry a 20 pound bird on the El train. Everyone at the office each brought in one of their favorite Thanksgiving dishes and The Goddess and Grocer delivered the bird — perfectly cut and ready to serve — with some additional sides. I highly recommend their cornbread stuffing, which was so light and fluffy.
You know you’ve put on a successful party when you catch GrubHub.com COO, Mike Evans, nicely sprawled across the couch after lunch (he got up before I could snap his picture). From everyone here at GrubHub.com, have a wonderful Thanksgiving and don’t slave over a stove if you don’t have to!
